I can’t change the direction of the wind but I can adjust my sails to reach my destination – Jimmy Dean.

Sometimes it is impossible to change the direction that something is heading in, but you can always try an alternative way to reach your ultimate goal.

You never fail until you stop trying!

As long as you continue to try at anything you haven’t failed.  You might lose, you may finish last, you may not cross the line first but you haven’t failed.

Strive for excellence not perfection

As stupid as it may sound perfection is a negative thought!  It doesn’t exist and chasing it can lead to many negative emotional feelings, anger, frustration and disappointment to name just three.   Aim for excellence, being very good or even the best at something is achievable and will bring you positive feelings and the rewards you are seeking.

We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.

Everyone, no matter who they are, or the challenges they face in life, has ability.  It may be in a sport, or writing, cooking, putting others at ease, making people feel wanted, helping someone live independently, or making people laugh.  It doesn’t matter what it is we all have ability of some kind.  Find yours today.

Being happy doesn’t mean being perfect.

Pursuing perfection can lead to negative feelings as it is impossible to achieve.  No one is perfect, we all have floors somewhere.

Aim for excellence or to be the best at something, keep your goals achievable.

Forgive yourself first

Forgiveness is a very powerful part of living a positive life.  Without forgiveness you will be full of negative feelings and thoughts which really serve no purpose.  To live a full and purposeful life you need to be able to forgive people that you believe have wronged you in some way, but bear in mind that forgiving is NOT the same as forgetting.  You need to forgive so you can move on with life.  You also need to be able to forgive yourself for things you may have said or done, or even not done in some instances.  Before you can forgive others forgive yourself first.

Choice

A choice is an active decision.  You can choose to go to work, you can choose to stay home, you can choose what to have for lunch or who to be friends with.  You can choose to be positive, you can choose to be negative, you can choose to get married or remain single, you can even choose to get divorced.  Whatever choices you make in life you must be prepared to accept the consequences which will go with them, right or wrong. As Roy T Bennett says here whatever choice you make choose wisely.

The Comfort Zone

Change begins at the end of your comfort zone.  Once you enter the unknown you begin to grow and develop, you are experiencing things and feelings that you’ve never come across before.

All too often people remain in there comfort zone because it is safe, there are no surprises,  but life only really begins when you get outside of your familiar surroundings.

Going outside of what is familiar can be stressful and frightening but also very rewarding, there is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered.

Do what is right

These words were written by Roy T Bennett, and for me are very appropriate in the modern world.  It takes courage and belief in yourself to do something which will not be popular and therefore doesn’t come easily.
